Sankt Augustin, located in the Rhein-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, was formed during the North Rhine-Westphalia territorial reform in 1969 and lies within the Bonn metropolitan area. It is named after the patron saint of the local Steyler missionaries, Saint Augustine (354–430 AD). The oldest building in the town is the parish church of Saint Martinus in Niederpleis, parts of which date back to the 12th century; this district also contains a knight’s residence and a historic mill. Birlinghoven Castle was built from 1901 to 1903 in the style of English country houses, with an orangery and a park extending into the Birlinghoven forest. The castle currently belongs to the Fraunhofer Institute Centre Birlinghoven campus and is only accessible by prior arrangement. A lot of sights for a comparatively compact town. However idyllic Sankt Augustin may be, there is regularly work for our investigators at Kurtz Detective Agency.

The B 56 connects Sankt Augustin with Bonn and Siegburg. There are three motorway links to the A 560 in Menden, Mülldorf and Niederpleis, and one to the A 59 near Hangelar. To the east, the A 3 skirts Sankt Augustin and is directly connected via the A 560 junction in Niederpleis. The Siegburg railway line links Sankt Augustin with the district town of Siegburg as well as the federal city of Bonn. On 11 December 2014, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Deutsche Bahn AG and the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Rheinland signed an agreement to connect Bonn directly to Cologne-Bonn Airport and Cologne Central Station via the right-Rhine rail line. S-Bahn line 13, which currently terminates in Troisdorf, is to be extended with stops in Sankt Augustin-Menden and Bonn-Beuel and will terminate at Bonn-Oberkassel. A connection to Bonn Central Station is not possible as Bonn lacks a railway bridge. The project is currently (2015) estimated at €434 million. Initial construction began immediately after the contract signing and is scheduled for completion in 2030.
The better a location like Sankt Augustin is connected to larger cities, the more companies and their employees – and unfortunately dubious characters – are attracted to the area. Especially in a growing business location, the development of a lucrative site is also profitable for criminals, which is why our detectives regularly operate in Sankt Augustin – particularly in the area of economic investigation. Within and around the town there are several industrial estates with manufacturing companies and timber-processing industry. Fahrrad Feld, the largest bicycle retailer in North Rhine-Westphalia as of 2015, is also based in Sankt Augustin.
In recent years, offences such as trick theft and burglary have increased. In Sankt Augustin, private and especially commercial premises have seen entire safes, sometimes weighing over 200 kg, stolen. A three-person trio was caught in March 2014, but most other burglars remain at large. If you have been burgled, do not rely solely on the police. Kurtz Detective Agency can investigate alongside the authorities and, in most cases, recover your property. Contact our detectives for investigations in Sankt Augustin on +49 228 2861 4084.
